Reading's annual journey

On cycle tour, you don’t have much space for books. That’s actually a good thing. On tour, there are plenty of book-lending stations, official or not, along the way. There are the cafe corners, park benches, those little commnity-based corner lending boxes.  I love those, because if you’re biking through a place it really is a give or take spot. Of course, there are also the personal libraries of the friends you stay with or whose homes you visit. Anywhere you go, there are always books laying around when you get there, and there are places to lay books when you are finished with them. Books are one of the ways I temporarily ‘decorate' a space if I know I might be somewhere for a few days to months. Often, I go out to the local shop and gather a few of the local titles up. What follows is a long-ish discussion of some of the more interesting titles I enncountered on tour this summer. Some I read whole, others I perused, still others I simply had around to glance at. As I pack up my stuff at the end of the summer, here in Dundee, I am deciding what to leave here in the gear stash - because I am fairly certain I will be returning in the next year or so. Do I leave them as part of the little library I have here? Do I give them back? Do I leave them on a park bench? Give them to a friend who might enjoy them in the next place I go?
